Day Seven

We found a fresh Crop Circle right near Avebury. See the stone circle in the background of this photo?

Mother was able to get a close look at it.

Sam and Julia walked out into the very center.

Here are two of the planets, Mercury and venus.

After Avebury, we went to the West Kennett Long Barrow, very near by.

Did we catch a disembodied spirit or just the sun reflection on the lens?

Day Eight

On Thursday we went to Stonehenge. We got there just at opening at 9:00. There was only one bus there when we arrived. When we left, there were 10!

Do we wonder at how they made it? Do we wonder at why? This land is full of circles, everywhere you look. Stonehenge, Avebury, burial mounds, crop circles. Even classic English gardens in the backyards have circular paths.

It was a little cold and rainy but we went around the entire circle, even mother. A stranger approached her and said with a laugh, “You’re a brave lady!”

Mother was a little cold but totally delighted to be at Stonehenge.

Did you see that?

We traveled on down to the coast, which was a bit longer a drive than we thought. It’s hard to judge distances here as many roads that look similar on the maps, are very different on the ground. An ‘orange’ marked road on the maps may be a 4 lane Highway or a narrow, twisting 2 lane country road.

We searched for shells, (or Spanish treasure!) on the beach and fossils too.

We ate “Monster fish and chips” at a near by 'Tea House'. I asked if they had 'Monster and chips' but the waitress said “We don’t give away our monsters!”

Day 9

“Which way?” Friday we went to nearby Bath, named for the Roman baths that have been there almost 2000 years. They say it’s England’s only hot spring.

The baths tour was 22.00 US so only Greg, Peter and Mother went in while we admired the architecture in the town square.

Mother, Peter and Jude later went into the church. Mother said it was one of the most beautiful buildings she’s ever seen.

Meanwhile, Diana and Robert went on a boat tour of the river Avon, which we learned is one of 11 Avon’s in England.

There is nothing linear in England, not even the rows of ‘Flats’.

Near bath is a crumbly old castle that we toured.

No, the kids aren’t on their cell phones, they took the self-guided tour of the ruins.

I cant remember, was this the ‘Lady's Tower’ or the dungeon?

Back at the cottages, Sam and Julia made everyone Shish-ka-bobs, without the skewers! They were fantastic!

Day 10, Last day

We found one more crop circle on the internet so went looking for it on our last full day here.

Here it is from the air. Notice how small the people are in the bottom left hand circle?
Whoever or whatever you believe makes these things, they are beautiful, transient, and someone is expressing themselves in a very unique way.

It was pouring rain when we left the cottage but by the time we found the circle it had turned nice, for England!

One last 'I was there' pic.

The truth is out there!

We split up and Greg, Peter, Mother and Jude ended up back in Lacock for a small artisans market and refreshments.

Our last night in England and we chose an Indian restaurant that was excellent. Cheers!

See everyone back in the 'Colonies'.
